Have you visited the Lilo Bar at the Rydges Plaza Resort? It’s a beautiful bar and restaurant on Level 3 of the hotel and they often host family friendly events – on Sunday March 5th they are having a Bollywood Disco with DJ and facepainting – one of the best things about Lilo is free use of their beautiful pool (and great cocktails for mum and dad). Felling stressed out? Why not try the free Rainbow Kids Yoga on Thursday 9th March from 3.30pm-4.30pm and find your zen. Yoga is fab for any age – this class is held in Edmonton every Thursday and is suitable for ages 7-10 years and is a fun and interactive session.

We absolutely loved our recent visit to the GOMA art gallery in Brisbane (read all about our visit on the blog here) and are super excited to learn that GOMA on tour is visiting Cairns this month! On Saturday 11th March the Cairns Regional Gallery will host a free Kids on tour ‘The Gabori Sisters, Gathering By the Sea’ interactive workshop from 1pm-4pm introducing young visitors to the unique and important relationship the Kaiadilt people share with the sea and the creatures who inhabit the waters around the Island. From 11am-4pm on Saturday 11th March at Edge Hill State School there is a big charity event – Japan Day Of Hope – the Cairns Japanese community will be getting together and raising money to support the Fukushima Children – there will be Japanese food (yum), music and culture – check out their Facebook page here
The 8th March is International Women’s Day and there are events across Cairns over the weekend – see the schedule here, and on the 11th March the Friends of the Himalayan Children will host a dinner to celebrate Women’s Day and celebrate the achievements of the inspirational women of Nepal – music on the night by the awesome local musician Michael Thomas and there will be raffles, a live auction, silent auction, and lucky door prizes. March 12th is the day of the Cairns Pregnancy and Baby Expo held at the Hilton Hotel – Meet over 50 local businesses for parents-to-be and new babies. Gold coin door entry and raffle to raise money for Special Care Nursery at Cairns Hospital. Face painting and 500 free goodie bags! Sponsored by PakMag. More info on Facebook
The 21st March is Harmony Day and there are events around Cairns – The Salvation Army will be hosting an International Food Stall set up as an “Eat Street” and will also be organising dancers from various countries to perform their traditional dances and songs – 72 Hoare Street, Manunda.

The 25th March will see the final of the Cairns’ Young Newsreader Competition – head down and support the brave students battling it out for a huge prize pool and a chance to read the news on WIN local TV. More info here .
I’m not going to lie – this one has got me a little bit excited…the 27th-31st March is National Playgroup Week and this will be celebrated in Cairns on Thursday 30th March at the Fun Ship on the Esplanade. This year’s theme is Messy Play and you’ll find a Slime Station, a Playdough Centre, water Play Activities , Messy Music Play, a Sensory Experience and a Chill Out Zone. From the 23rd-28th March it’s The Feast of the Senses festival in Innisfail – arguably North Queensland’s premier tropical food experience. Lots is happening including the Guinness World Record attempt at the World’s longest banana split – and a market day extravaganza. Head over to their website for all the delicious details.
