Did you know that over 40,000 people embrace their inner German each year and head to the annual Oktoberfest in Brisbane?
I lived in Germany for a year during my Uni years and learned that the Germans are some of the nicest people you will meet, they have AMAZING trousers in the form of Lederhosen and they give you the best beer in the biggest glass you can imagine!
I also learned that about 7 millions litres of beer are enjoyed at the traditional 2 week celebration in Munich, Germany – and it has become known as an international party like no other!
What I didn’t know is that the very first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 – it was a huge family celebration held in honour of the royal wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese – and to this day it continues to be an incredible family day out – with the Kinder Zone providing hours of fun for the kids.
Here are the best bits for kids at this year’s festival in Brisbane
- Cuddly baby animals to pat, melting anyone’s heart – cute factor 101%!
- Germany’s popular “Torwandschiessen” (go-for-goal) tests every budding Beckenbauer, Beckham or Ronaldo. All proceeds go to our charity of choice, Youngcare.
- Puppet theatre with a classic German ‘Kasperl-theater’ touch.
- Rides – all the old and new favourites are here. (kids’ tickets for Sundays get 2 free rides included with their free tickets!)
- Face painting
Oktoberfest Brisbane takes place on 6th – 8th October & 13th – 15th October 2017. Sundays are the main family days and also include ride tickets for the kids. (2 free rides per child on Sundays only)

We last went to Oktoberfest in 2007, my husband has been hounding me to go back ever since, but unfortunately circumstances in preceding years haven’t allowed this. I would LOVE to win this prize, and take my husband and our darling children to Oktoberfest as a WUNDERBAR surprise for them all!
