We are a family of dairy lovers! I would much rather enjoy a cheese plate than a sweet dessert, and at one point when the boys were both babies we seriously considered buying a cow to satisfy their milk consumption!
So we jumped at the chance to visit Maleny Dairies and experience their farm and factory tour – located in the stunning village of Maleny on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
One of the things we are really keen to do while exploring Australia is to teach the boys the value of food and drink, where it comes from and the importance of eating healthily. We had just visited the Ginger Factory in Yandina and learned all about where ginger, honey and fudge come from! A visit to Maleny Dairies was perfect for the kids to learn all about where milk comes from and come face to face with lots of their favourite animals.
Maleny Dairies Farm Tour
There are over 200 cows at the farm – as well as chickens, goats, dogs and sheep – and we got to meet and even help feed some of them.
The farm tour includes watching the cows get milked – and exploring the different animal enclosures.
We also got to see lots of adorable baby animals too – and even bottle feed some baby cows and sheep!
Maleny Dairies Factory
We were also guided through the factory to see how the milk gets from cow to bottle. We saw where the ‘girls’ visit twice every day to get milked on the machine – where they produce between 15-25 litres each time. If you do an afternoon tour you will see the machine in action!
Moo-licious!
At the end of our tour we were treated to a taste of some of the farm’s delicious products. We gathered around a table and the kids went wild as we got to sample strawberry and chocolate milk, yoghurts and custard – a great way to end a fabulous tour!
The Maleny Dairies tour is perfect for families – it’s an interactive, tactile and tasty tour which is fun and informative for kids and adults alike. We stayed at the Big 4 Rivershore Resort in Didillibah which had camping sites as well as glamping tents accommodation available.
